yeats

I really enjoyed reading the works of Yeats this week . i think my favorite poem was Sailing to Byzantium. First of all its a cool title. From the collective work of Yeats, I think it is safe to say that Yeats is not to found of aging and often pondered Death and therefor is own mortality and immortality of his work. In this piece particular he speaks of the ills of aging in the beginning and then moves to the notion that for the aged its best to get out of town to die. As far as the comparison to art and immortality he draws a direct comparison to his own work as another form of art , the golden statue, this is an interesting notion since statues of greek and roman and egyption artist are still today some of the oldest remain pieces of art, and making the statue gold only adds to its ability to age , gold is a metal that does not have great electronegativaty, which means is does not corrode easy and lasts a long time, and the staying power of gold would have been know at that time, which of course adds to its vaule.
